Women’s MLK Tourney at UCSB

The women’s MLK tourney is taking place January 17-18, 2015, at UCSB.  Saturday’s pool play starts at 9:30am.   Sunday’s play features power pools followed by bracket play.  The pools for the weekend are:
  • Pool A – Davis, USC, Arizona St., SJSU II
  • Pool B – Santa Clara, San Marcos, N. Arizona, USC II
  • Pool C – UCLA, Chico St., Fresno St., Irvine II
  • Pool D – UCSB, Oregon, SJSU, Davis II
  • Pool E – Stanford, Irvine, Utah Valley, Cal Poly II
  • Pool F – Cal Poly, SDSU, Oregon II, UCSB II

Men’s MLK Tourney: Great Redwave National Invitational

The Great Redwave National Invitational (GNRI) is taking place this Saturday (1/17) and Sunday (1/18).  The tourney is hosted by Fresno St. but taking place at Cal in RSF.  The following teams are attending: Penn. St., UC Davis, Cal, Sac. St., UCSB, Cal Poly, Air Force, Sonoma St., Cal II, SFSU, Oregon, and Fresno St.  Each team is playing 8 matches and final records will determine placement in Gold, Silver, and Bronze brackets.      

California College Club to Pro

Jake Wiens won a national championship with Fresno St. in 2009.  He was named national MVP in 2009 and earned 1st team All-American honors in 2008.  He now is playing professionally in the Netherlands for Lanstede Zwolle.  Listen to Jake’s interview with From the Pins!

UCLA Women’s Bruin Invitational

The women’s team at UCLA is hosting its annual Bruin Invitational on Saturday, January 31, 2005.  Entry fee is $150.  The winning team will be refunded its entrance fee.  UCLA is looking for 12 teams to participate in this highly competitive tournament.  Contact UCLA’s president at uclaclubvb@yahoo.com by January 5 to reserve a spot.

Las Vegas Open

The 8th annual Las Vegas Open is taking place on March 20-21 (Friday-Saturday), 2015.  The event is open to 32 women’s teams and 24 men’s teams.  Most of the teams have paid. This is going to be a great, competitive event that will prepare teams for nationals.
  • The following women’s teams are attending: UCLA, UCSB, SDSU, Irvine, LMU, Long Beach, Fullerton, Point Loma, N. Arizona, USD, UCSD, Fresno, Colorado St., USC, Oregon, Cal, Cal Poly, Davis, Arizona, Colorado, UCSB II, SDSU II, Fullerton II, UCSD II, Colorado St. II, USC II, Oregon II, Cal Poly II, Davis II, Arizona II, and Colorado II
  • The following men’s teams are attending: Irvine, LMU, Arizona, Santa Clara, Utah Valley, USC, SDSU, Sonoma St., Cal Poly, UCSB, SFSU, Davis, Colorado, Arizona St., Cal, UCLA, Texas A&M, Arizona II, Utah Valley II, USC II, Cal Poly II, Davis II, Arizona St. II, and Cal II.
New for this year, the tournament will feature an adult division for men and women.  For each division, the idea is to have 4 teams from California, 4 teams from Arizona, 4 teams from Utah, and 4 teams from Nevada.  The winning team will receive free entry to USAV Adult Nationals (an $800 value).
